Wiki is too hard to contribute to due to aggressive anti-spam measures
Closed, ResolvedPublicBUG

Description

I'm trying to update the documentation for monitor traffic (which has been removed) and add documentation for monitor interfaces (which replaces monitor traffic), but I'm being denied by the spam detector:

*** Forbidden. Contains contacts. Message seems to be spam. ***

There are no contacts. In this first case, I'm literally just adding this to "Monitor traffic (command):"

Deprecation/removal warning

This command has been deprecated and removed as of (apparently) VyOS 1.1.7. Use monitor interfaces, instead.

No contacts there. Definitely a false positive.

Also, I'm having to go through the captcha 3 or 4 times every single time I preview or submit changes. Why can't it just remember that I'm not a robot? I'm logged in!

I'd like to point out that the "personal appeal from the VyOS Wiki founder Daniil Baturin" at the top of the Wiki pages is fantastically defeated when we make it this difficult to contribute to the documentation. ๐Ÿ˜ž

I'd like to point out that the "personal appeal from the VyOS Wiki founder Daniil Baturin" at the top of the Wiki pages is fantastically defeated when we make it this difficult to contribute to the documentation. ๐Ÿ˜ž

I totally agree on this.

@UnicronNL and me started a testing approach on a Sphinx based Documentation https://vyos.readthedocs.io where the source code is here: https://github.com/vyos/vyos-documentation but as of now there is only the Wiki as master reference it seems.

So, is there anything that anyone can do here so that I can actually improve this documentation? Or is it just going to have to remain inaccurate for now?

I stumbled over the same issue and since then I contribute to @UnicronNL and @c-po documentation. I think the old wiki will go away at one point, have a look at the github link @c-po posted above, it's also way easier to maintain the new documentation.

The wiki, sadly, was so hard to protect from spam that it became nearly impossible to edit for humans indeed.
I've updated the banner to tell people about migration to readthedocs and the github repository everyone is now welcome to contribute to.

The wiki will soon be archived when the migration is complete, so I'm closing this.
